Hotel in LehDinner includedAcclimatisation

A short, deliberately easy day. Magnetic Hill, the Sangam viewpoint and sunset from Shanti Stupa. Still no altitude gain.

Breakfast + dinnerLocal sightseeingFree evening

Over Khardung La at 5,359m with a photo stop, then down into Nubra. Camel ride at the Hunder dunes in the evening if you want it.

Camp in NubraKhardung LaHunder dunes

The rough one — about seven hours on a road that is mostly riverbed. Pangong turns up around 4pm and it is worth every jolt.

Camp by the lakeLong driving daySunset at Pangong

South along the lake, then the Chushul plains and Rezang La. Hanle at dusk, where the observatory keeps the whole village dark.

Up to 5,798m and back. We keep the summit stop under twenty minutes and carry oxygen in both vehicles.

The long drive back with a stop at the Chumathang springs. Last night together, usually the loudest one.

What the last four batches said

Did the Umling La batch in June. Our captain Tenzin rerouted us around a landslide near Hanle without any drama and we still made it for sunset. The oxygen check every evening sounded excessive until two people in our group actually needed it. Worth every rupee.

Solo female traveller, first group trip, and I was nervous about it. The WhatsApp group before departure made a huge difference — by day one I already knew who I was travelling with. Homestays in Spiti were basic but spotless.

Kedarkantha in late December, minus nine at the campsite, and the tents held up fine. Rented the jacket and gaiters from them instead of buying — saved me about eight thousand rupees for one trek.

Meghalaya in peak monsoon means you will get wet, and they say so upfront, which I appreciated. Only gripe: the Dawki boat ride felt rushed. Everything else was better than the price suggested.
