Planning a trip to Kashmir
Most people go to Kashmir for Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam, and that trip is genuinely lovely — a houseboat night on Dal, the gondola up to Apharwat, and a day in the Betaab valley.
The other Kashmir is the Great Lakes trek: seven days between Sonamarg and Naranag, crossing four passes and camping beside a different alpine lake each night. It is the best trek in India and it is not easy.
